Transforming minds to develop approved workmen for the Kingdom of God

About Briar Hill Academy

The Warner Family

Jeffrey and Cindy Warner have been married for nearly 41 years. They have seven children and have homeschooled in three different countries since 1991. Early in their careers, they realized the value of community in the homeschool process, and as a result they have worked with many families grow in homeschooling over the decades. They spent 14 years in Croatia and Bosnia, and they still engage in ministry with local churches there. Their two youngest children are still at home.

How BHA Began

The name itself comes from the first year Jeff and Cindy began to teach their oldest daughter, Jana, at age 5. They lived on Briar Hill Road, and she wanted “her school” to have a real name. After CoVid, Jeff was teaching with an excellent homeschool enrichment program which had to give up its in-seat high school track. Several families wanted their children to continue to learn in person, and with his director’s blessing, Jeff branched out, taking seven high schoolers, designing this “one-room schoolhouse,” and developing the BHA Scope and Sequence. Jeff is the teacher for BHA.

The Important Stuff

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. We trust it to be accurate and truthful, about God, man, life, and the future. We also believe that life and children are two of the greatest gifts God gives us. While BHA will provide your child with a strong education in the subjects we teach, the more important goal is to provide an atmosphere where each child will be “transformed by the renewing of [his or her] mind,” learning to become an “approved workman, who never needs to be ashamed, correctly interpreting the Word of Truth.”

Partnering with Families

Our goal is to support a Biblical, theistic world view in a way which should complement that world view as you express it in your home, or as you are seeking it for your home. Academically, BHA is committed to providing a strong knowledge base for your students in all of the subjects, within its one-day-per-week structure. Furthermore, it can be a powerful resource around which you can build many aspects of your overall homeschooling plan.

We will deal with controversial topics, but we will never do so in a gratuitous manner. I like to tell my students the Bible is an R-rated book. It has sex, violence, and all sorts of language, so parental guidance is required. I always encourage students and parents to talk with each other about the things we have learned.
